DEVO with Darden Studio

Filed under: personal — Scott Kellum @ 5:36 pm

Last Thursday I went out with Darden Studio to see Tom Tom Club and DEVO at McCarren Park Pool. It was a fantastic concert. Pretty much all of the studio went to the show. It is such a fantastic place to work and Josh makes fantastic typefaces.

New Internship

Filed under: Uncategorized — Scott Kellum @ 4:55 pm

Matthew Schwartz Design StudioWell my summer is filling up and I got a new internship! It is with Matthew Schwartz Design Studio in NoHo, NYC. It is a multi-disciplinary design firm that does some fantastic design work. I will still be with Darden Studio. I am really getting the best of both worlds this summer. Working with Joshua Darden onis so relaxed. Typefaces are almost totally removed from the big corporations. We satisfy other designers so we are shielded from too much corporate influence. Matthew Schwartz on the other hand deals with a lot of identity and the corporate side of design. They create more total packages for companies and organizations. Both are incredibly valuable internships and I am honored to have the opportunities at both places and this summer is turning out to be really great.

Long time no update

Filed under: Uncategorized — Scott Kellum @ 9:29 pm

Well it seems like forever since I last updated. A lot has gone on in the past few days. I have been interning at Darden Studio, a type foundry, and enjoying the start of my summer. Ready to really get back to work on projects. I just got a new shipment of stickers for the type cube so hopefully I will have something I am satisfied with enough to sell as well as getting some new t-shirts ready.

Experimental Typography

Filed under: Uncategorized — Scott Kellum @ 6:28 am

Finally my experimental type class projects are done and ready to go. I worked hard on two websites and the video of Punky’s Dilemma. The TypeCubes and Spassky vs. Fischer sites are the most interactive creations that have come out of this class. The user can really play with the type and get into creations.

Up all night

Filed under: Uncategorized — Scott Kellum @ 6:09 am

school office Pulling another all nighter. I had to get through ASCII on my typeface and it is going painfully slow. I am really shifting my focus to experimental typography now with the creation of the type cube website and the Spassky vs. Fischer website. I am continuing to get extremely positive feedback on the cube and am excited to see how the project will end up. In the next row of computers over people are rambling on about movies they are editing and going crazy from the stress. I am kind of enjoying the environment and how it fosters productivity. I am just doing coding and basic things so I plugged the monitor into my laptop and have the extra real-estate to spread web design and code windows over two monitors as well as the luxury of working on my customized for productivity laptop.

CUBE

TypeCube Jumbled

My latest creation that I am incredibly happy with. This is the Rubik’s type cube. You can solve for letters and create words using these cubes. It looks just beautiful when put together. I am incredibly pleased with the way it came out.
